Meet Our Mentees

Picture_Clamor, Thomas Uriel.jpg

Hey everyone! I’m Tomi, an incoming Grade 11 student interested in Marine Biology and Environmental Science! I joined Climatry because I wanted to gain a new perspective on something I've always been very passionate about: our environment. As I learned more about the climate crisis, I started to make my own little efforts such as using a metal straw, starting my own compost bin, and even speaking up about the issue online. Though these individual efforts are valuable to the movement, I wanted to try doing something more impactful and meaningful such as climate research, and I felt that Climatry was the perfect opportunity to explore that. It has also been fantastic being able to connect with my mentor and my fellow mentees to learn about their perspectives on climate change, since intersectionality has always been one of the keys to solving it.

Hiii! I’m Geni, an incoming Grade 11 science high school student and a Climatry mentee! In my senior year, I am planning to take Biology and Chemistry/Agriculture as my subjects, as I am aspiring to be a Toxicologist! Before Climatry, I was already interested in sustainable living and was already aware of the issue of the climate crisis in our environment. However, even though I was aware of it, I never really knew how I should act on such a huge problem. This is why when I saw Climatry, I immediately knew that this is my chance to educate myself! The mentorship and the talks in Climatry really help you to know what needs to be done and what can be done. Saving our climate is not something we do individually, we do it as a whole.

What’s up! I’m Elden, a student that’s very interested in watching TV shows, movies, and some sports leagues like the NBA and F1! As we currently face the climate crisis, it’s important to be knowledgeable about our climate, and how we can ensure that our world is still habitable for our future generations. That’s why I signed up for Climatry! Becoming a part of something that aims to do just that, and at the same time, allows us to understand more about what we can do not only for ourselves but for the world through research, is extremely fulfilling to be a part of. Through research here at Climatry, hopefully, I can find out more about what drives our behavior and what we can do to increase awareness about climate change. :DD

Hello! I'm Raph, and I'm an incoming Grade 11 student interested in potentially pursuing Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science. Being a young person that has to experience firsthand the effects of our accumulating pollution, I find that there is a need to look into creating more sustainable and/or eco-friendly solutions for the different sectors that contribute to climate change. Once I discovered Climatry, and how it aligned with my research interests and environmental advocacies, I knew I had to join. Today, through Climatry's help, I'm looking into the chemistry of biodegradable polymers in serving as an alternative to traditional plastics, as well as the chemistry of fabrics and textiles to figure out ways to combat the pollutive effects of fast fashion.

Hi! I’m Bea, an incoming Grade 11 Philippine science high school student and a mentee at Climatry! The topics I will pursue for my senior year are Physics and Engineering, with Tech in the next SY. By learning more about these, I intend to learn more about eco-friendlier alternatives to the technology we have today, especially since the majority of these technologies are harming the earth. This is why, when a post was uploaded in our Batch FB Page about Climatry looking mentees, I was drawn in. I am amazed at the intentions and advocacy of Climatry, which is why I am ever so thankful I signed up for this. Thank you, Climatry! <3

Hello, I’m Waki! An incoming Grade 11 student and Climatry mentee interested in Material Sciences, Chemical Engineering and Computer Science that despises Single-Use plastics with all his heart! Ever since I was a child, my parents have told me to be aware of the state of the pollution in the country, and at first, I didn’t think much of it. However, as I grew older, I began to realize how widespread and severe the situation was. I joined Climatry in order to learn more about the environmental situation of the world around us and how I could apply research in helping with the environmental situation. Climatry has given me the opportunity to meet wonderful people and to look into alternatives to single-use plastics and ways to utilize wastes. Thank you so much Climatry!

What’s up, world! I’m Gian, an incoming Filipino Grade 11 science high school student and a mentee of Climatry. I will be taking up Physics and Engineering as subjects and will be pursuing Architecture one day. I joined Climatry because it includes talks and mentorship that tackle topics you need to know about climate, such as the climate change and the climate crisis we are facing right now. No matter how young students we are, we can help combat and take action on this environmental problem in this developing world. Whether how little or large your knowledge about climate topics is, if you are interested in Climate-related research, this program is for you. As long as you learn and synergize with your mentors and core team, you will have a Research “mate” out of “Climate” in no time!
